CapsulesChemical Name: CALCITRIOL (kal-si-TRYE-ole) Common usesThis medicine is a form of vitamin D used to treat low calcium levels in your blood. It may also be used to treat osteoporosis or other conditions as determined by your doctor. Before usingINFORM YOUR DOCTOR OR PHARMACIST of all prescription and over-the-counter medicine that you are taking. Inform your doctor of any other medical conditions, allergies, pregnancy, or breast-feeding. DirectionsFollow the directions for using this medicine provided by your doctor. STORE THIS MEDICINE at room temperature in a tightly-closed container, away from heat and light. IF YOU MISS A DOSE OF THIS MEDICINE and you are taking 1 dose a day, take it as soon as possible. If you do not remember your dose until the next day, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not take 2 doses at once. CautionsKeep all doctor and laboratory appointments while you are taking this medicine. BEFORE YOU BEGIN TAKING ANY NEW MEDICINE, either prescription or over-the-counter, check with your doctor or pharmacist. This includes vitamin and mineral supplements containing vitamin D or calcium, or antacids containing calcium, magnesium, or phosphorous. Possible side effectsCHECK WITH YOUR DOCTOR AS SOON AS POSSIBLE if you experience unusual weakness, severe headache, nausea, vomiting, dry mouth, constipation, muscle pain, bone pain, or a metallic taste. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist. If you take too muchIf overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include weakness, headache, loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, stomach cramps, dizziness, and ringing in the ears.
