Chemical Name: DIHYDROERGOTAMINE (dye-hye-droe-er-GOT-a-meen)

Common uses
This medicine is an ergot derivative used to treat migraine headaches.

Before using
WARNING: Infrequently, a very serious life-threatening decrease in the amount of blood supply to the hands and feet (peripheral ischemia) and rarely to the brain can occur when this medication is taken with drugs that affect liver metabolism (e.g., potent CYP 3A4 enzyme inhibitors). Do not take this medication with macrolide antibiotics (e.g., erythromycin, clarithromycin, troleandomycin), HIV protease inhibitors (e.g. ritonavir, nelfinavir, indinavir, amprenavir, saquinavir), azole antifungals (e.g. ketoconazole, itraconazole). Some medicines or medical conditions may interact with this medicine. INFORM YOUR DOCTOR OR PHARMACIST of all prescription and over-the-counter medicine that you are taking. ADDITIONAL MONITORING OF YOUR DOSE OR CONDITION may be needed if you are taking nefazodone, fluconazole, fluoxetine, fluvoxamine, zileuton, clotrimazole & other mild CYP 3A4 enzyme inhibitors. Inform your doctor of any other medical conditions, allergies, pregnancy, or breast-feeding. USE OF THIS MEDICINE IS NOT RECOMMENDED if you have a history of high blood pressure or heart or kidney conditions. Contact your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions or concerns about using this medicine.

Directions
Follow the directions for using this medicine provided by your doctor. This medicine comes with a patient information leaflet. Read it carefully. Ask your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist any questions that you may have about this medicine. Before using this medicine, the applicator must be pumped 4 times. DO NOT breathe in deeply during or immediately after spraying. A usual dose of this medicine is 1 spray in each nostril as soon as possible after a migraine headache has started. If more than 1 spray per nostril is to be used, wait 15 minutes between sprays. DO NOT EXCEED the recommended dose. DO NOT use daily on a regular basis. AVOID EATING GRAPEFRUIT OR DRINKING GRAPEFRUIT JUICE while taking this medicine. STORE THIS MEDICINE at room temperature below 77 degrees F (25 degrees C). Do NOT freeze.

Cautions
FOR WOMEN: DO NOT USE THIS MEDICINE if you are pregnant. IF YOU SUSPECT THAT YOU COULD BE PREGNANT, contact your doctor immediately. THIS MEDICINE IS EXCRETED IN BREAST MILK. DO NOT BREAST-FEED while taking this medicine.

Possible side effects
SIDE EFFECTS, that may go away during treatment, include nausea, vomiting, change in taste, nose congestion or dryness, or sore throat. If they continue or are bothersome, check with your doctor. CHECK WITH YOUR DOCTOR AS SOON AS POSSIBLE if you experience numbness or tingling of your fingers or toes; muscle pain or weakness in the arms or legs; chest pain or a change in heart rate. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist.

If you take too much
If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include numbness, tingling, or pain in fingers or toes; nausea; vomiting; slowed breathing; lightheadedness; fainting; headache; fast heartbeat; flushing; confusion; seizures; and coma.

DISCARD ANY REMAINING MEDICINE 8 hours after the spray applicator has been prepared. DO NOT SHARE THIS MEDICINE with others for whom it was not prescribed. DO NOT USE THIS MEDICINE for other health conditions. KEEP THIS MEDICINE out of the reach of children.
